About PMS (Power Management System)

        More power consume, causes loss to financial resources (High cost because of electrical usage). A report from an article show that a company with 2.500 Pcs and a power management system uses 91,203 KWH per year, without power management system, the figure jumps up to 988,026, for example, inactive laptop will be automatically hibernate / sleep mode. Computer PSU efficiency generaly 70% - 75%, others will dissipating as heat (New Energy star 4.0 now required 80%). Largest enerygy consumption will be video card and processor. Storage - Hard disk drive and solid state drive have similar power consumption.

        PMS is function as the coordinator to manage the power of workstation. For example the laptop will automatically switch to power saving mode while needed, this is one kind of power management system for microprocessor.

        Window 7 for instance had a built in PMS so that it can make the performance more efficiency instead of using a 3rd party software, as well as reducing the cost.

What actually PMS do ?? It is divided into few stages :
  1. Working state (Processing)
  2. Processor idle and low power state, RAM powered
  3. Processor in deep sleep, RAM powered, most devices in low power
  4. CPU in deep sleep, RAM get power, devices in lowest power states (Known as "standby")
  5. RAM no longer powered, disk contains an image of the RAM contents (Known as "hibernate")
  6. Power off
